Some Options to Consider
If you are in danger and need immediate help, get to a safe location, a friend or
neighbor's, and call the Police. Get a witness if possible. |
If you decide to leave the home, and have some time, take your personal property:
clothes, driver's license, social security card, birth certificates, marriage license,
etc. If you leave and are considering divorce, take the children with you if you
want custody later. |
If you are hurt, go to the emergency room of the nearest hospital. If possible,
reveal the cause of your injuries and be sure that a doctor's written report is made
and you are given a copy of the report. Have your injuries photographed. |
If you have been beaten, you can press charges against your assailant,
husband/boyfriend included. You may elect to sign an order of protection filed with
the courts. |
